Even as pope, Leo XIV uses his time to help his family with everyday problems. His brother John Prevost recently bought a new computer but could not get it to work properly. He called his brother at the Vatican, who explained step by step how to solve the problem. John also revealed that Leo XIV helped him with his tax return last year.
In an interview with Italian broadcaster TG5 for Leo XIV’s 71st birthday today, John Prevost spoke about his brother’s life as pope.
The brothers last met in July, when John joined Leo XIV during his summer stay at Castel Gandolfo. They spent ten days together, much of it at the papal summer residence.
John said they relaxed by the pool, read books, took naps, watched television and went swimming.
Leo XIV also took his relatives to several monasteries and showed them where he lives in the Vatican.
Asked how Leo XIV is coping with his new role, John said his brother “hasn’t collapsed.” He described him as facing the situation with humor, strength and …Bontsi

Why Catholicism Isn't Just Another Denomination. Fr Chris Alar

🇫🇷 A two-metre-high, blood-red sculpture of Jesus Christ holding two Uzi submachine guns is on display at L’Aérosol in Marseille. The blasphemy was made by French provocateur James Colomina. It was initially placed outside the venue before being moved indoors. Colomina claims the armed Christ is an anti-violence statement.

Bishop Strickland about Vatican 2 and Bishop Lefebvre
“GO AND REPAIR MY HOUSE, WHICH, AS YOU SEE, IS FALLING INTO RUIN”
Dear Sons and Daughters in Christ,

I know that some of you believe I have changed.
Some fear that I have crossed over to “the other side.”
Some wonder whether, after years of speaking plainly and courageously about the crisis in the Church, defending the traditional Roman liturgy, questioning what was done in the name of the Second Vatican Council, and speaking openly about Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, I am now retreating from those convictions.
Some of you may even feel betrayed.
So before I say anything else, I want to say this plainly:
I have not moved.
The words Christ spoke to St. Francis at San Damiano – “Go and repair my house, which, as you see, is falling into ruin” – have weighed heavily upon my heart.
I have not forgotten what happened to the Church.
I have not forgotten what happened to the sacred liturgy, to Catholic catechesis, to religious life, to priestly …Bontsi

Bishop Strickland "There is a phrase Catholics have heard for more than sixty years. “Vatican II changed that.”
Why don’t we hear Latin anymore? Vatican II.
Why did the Mass change? Vatican II.
Why did Gregorian chant disappear from so many Catholic churches? Vatican II.
Why did practices surrounding Holy Communion change? Vatican II.
Why did sanctuaries change? Vatican II.
Why did so many customs Catholics had known for generations suddenly disappear?
Again and again, the answer was simply, “Vatican II.”
Those two words became an explanation for almost everything that happened in Catholic life in the years following the Council. But lately I have been wondering whether that explanation is the right one. Not because Vatican II called for no change. It certainly did. But because when we actually sit down and read the documents of the Council, something interesting begins to happen.
We discover that some things commonly attributed to Vatican II are not actually in Vatican II. Other things …Bontsi

Spaghetti and meatballs isn’t an Italian dish 🇮🇹 🍝 But Naples, we have something better: “The cuzzitiello”! It didn’t start as street food It was a habit at home, almost always on Sunday morning, while mum or nonna made the ragù, the hungriest person in the family would take the still-warm “pane cafone”, pull out the crumb, and fill that crust with sauce and meatballs That heel of bread became a bowl Today, it is one of the classics of Neapolitan street food

In the past it was food for poor families (yes, nothing of more expensive attractions like cheese or meat). But today , at the current price of bread, it ceased to be such.
ETS and other EU communist regulations are forcing people to rethink their traditional cuisines. Also the diet for fast periods.
For example, fish was the most popular component of the Catholic fast in Europe. But, now euro-communism made fish a luxury product. It is visible e.g. in Poland when it comes to the Christmas Eve fast dish - carp. Carp was one of the cheapest fish/meal in socialist Poland. But now, the prices - especially if you want to buy local carp not imported one, are comparable with... venison.
Thus, carp, becoming quite luxurious, lost all its sense as the dish for the fast.
On the other hand, the sellers still think that nevertheless people will buy the product due to the sentiment from the childhood or whatever. The similar process is happening with other species of fish, even simple herrings, …Bontsi

Leo XIV Approves Maronite Archbishop of Damascus
Today, Pope Leo XIV has approved the election of Sharbel Ghattas Maroun as the new Maronite Catholic archbishop of Damascus. A Lebanese-born priest, he has spent much of his ministry in the United States.
Archbishop Maroun, 64, was elected by the Synod of Bishops of the Maronite Church. He succeeds Archbishop Samir Nassar, 76, whose resignation was accepted by the synod.
Since 2020, Maroun has served as protosyncellus, a senior position comparable to vicar general, of the Maronite Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles.
Born January 6, 1962, in Kfarselwan, Lebanon, Maroun briefly worked for Crédit Libanais bank.
